| ELIDEL FOR THE RED BLOTCHES |
Do you ever get patches of skin that have turned a bright red as a reaction to tape or latex? If so, then I have just the product for you.
As a quadriplegic, I have to use tape on my body to secure items such as my suprapubic catheter and leg bag straps. I have very sensitive skin and must use skin prep on any area of skin that is going to have tape on it. Sometimes, however, small areas of my skin that had tape on them -- but no skin prep -- break out into bright red spots. If not treated properly, these areas can easily turn into wounds. After years of that happening to me, I found a seemingly miracle cure.
WHAT IS ELIDEL?
Elidel is a cream used on the skin to treat eczema (atopic dermatitis), and it also clears up tape rashes with astonishing results. The rashes are not characterized by raised, blotchy areas as are the typical rash. Rather they are bright red areas that, if untreated, will blister. Elidel is a member of a class of medicines called topical calcineurin inhibitors. Elidel cream should be used on the skin for short periods, and if needed, treatment may be repeated with breaks in between.
According to Drugs.com, Elidel contains a substance called pimecrolimus, an immunosuppressant. It works by decreasing your body's immune system to help slow down the growth of atopic dermatitis (eczema) on your skin. When I use it, all the red marks are gone by the next day as though they never existed.
ELIDEL SIDE EFFECTS
Elidel side effects include burning, chicken pox, cold sores, common cold/stuffy nose, cough, fever, flu, headache, shingles, sore throat, swollen glands, warts, hyperventilation and Lou Gehrig's disease (just kidding on the last two).
The most common side effect at the skin application site is burning, characterized by a feeling of warmth. These side effects are usually mild or moderate, happen during the first 5 days of treatment, and usually clear up in a few days. Call your doctor if the burning feeling is severe or lasts for more than one week.
