Hello everybody. I was just contacted by a man whose father is a quadriplegic and has problems with profuse sweating. He asked me if I knew of any supplement or a tablet that might be available. I told him that I didn't know anything, and I would put the question out to all of you to see if anyone responded to it. So... is anyone aware of anything that comes with profuse sweating with a quadriplegic?
Thanks, Nick

My boyfriend is a Quad and whenever he has pain, whether related to urinary tract infection, constipation, or even a sore, the top left side of his head will begin to sweat. Doctors are skeptical about this warning, but it always turns out that something is going on......it's Bill's body telling him something just "ain't" right. |

When I sweat a lot, I notice that my kidneys are overworking, or the bowel is full and need to be relieved. Things like beer, whiskey, or even hard blend coffee can have an affect on kidneys. Notice if the sweet goes away after a bowel movement, and before the next one. |

Ditto Debbie's post. Sweating in a quad is one symptom of AD; it is a DANGER sign, something is wrong. It is usually an indication of pain (even tho' the quad doesn't feel it) or discomfort. First things to consider are bowel, bladder and skin of course. Sitting or lying position, in-grown toenails and stomach problems might also be the problem. You need to keep looking 'til you find the cause, it is SERIOUS. I bet if you take a blood pressure reading during a profuse sweating episode you will find it very high, that should convince you. Any skeptical doctor knows diddly about spinal cord injury. |

I went through a time when I was sweating alot soon after my accident. My hair and my pillows and sheets would be soaked!! Almost 8 months of this I got really sick and found out that I had some kind of Staph infection around the hardware in my spine. They ran all kinds of tests to see why I was sick. They couldnt find anything until my back broke open in the hospital.
Is he feeling bad or is he sick? It's gotta be something wrong to make him sweat like that.
Hope it helps

I have something similar but not quite. I have Hemihydrosis (sp?) which means I no longer sweat on one side of my body due to my injury but the opposite side sweats twice as much. I assume its due to the body needing to expel the presperation so it sends it all out on the good side. I have met new quads whos body is still trying to regulate itself and have trouble with over heating so they have to wear vests with ice packs in them but this is usually temporary. |

I sweat now and then. Sometimes I wear a towel under my shirt so I don't have to change my shirt. I once went through a time when I was changing my shirt up to twice a day. It turned out I had a kidney full of stones. After surgery, I was dry for about 3 mos. It started up again, not quite so intense, and I discovered I'm a Type II diabetic. What a ride life is. Praise God anyway... This life is only temporary. |

So you're a new quad -- welcome to Purgatory. Well, not entirely, but for a while perhaps. It's pretty rough, huh? It was for me. Life can get better, though, depending on what you do from this moment on. |
