For those in San Diego, great news. Check out their web site for more information.
Access to Independence received a grant from Housing and Urban Development in conjunction with the Fair Housing Council of San Diego.
This grant, Accessibility 1000, will provide $1000 for home modifications to eligible individuals with disabilities living within the city of San Diego. The goal of this project is to increase the supply of accessible housing units in the city.
The first project a2i contributed to using these funds was for the home modifications provided to the consumers mentioned in our cover story. These modifications included a completely remodeled shower room, widened bedroom doorways and custom-built doors to attach to those doorways.
This is an extremely important project that will make independent living an attainable goal for many people with disabilities living in and out of institutions. Please support this cause by referencing the "Accessibility 1000" project when you make your donations.

Hi Kel13,
Everything you mention is good in San Diego, and a lot more fun too for PWD. We have the normal rush hour traffic, not like L.A and all nice for a lot of quick trips to the beach, malls and plenty of parking. The doctors are great here and specialist in SCI. I lived all over the country and will never leave San Diego.

So you're a new quad -- welcome to Purgatory. Well, not entirely, but for a while perhaps. It's pretty rough, huh? It was for me. Life can get better, though, depending on what you do from this moment on. |
